The Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has issued an ultimatum to landowners of Jalan Sultan and Jalan Petalling, in Kuala Lumpur, to sign the mutual agreement on the project by end of this month.
Failing which compulsory land acquisition will take place, said MRT Corp CEO Azhar Abdul Hamid (left) today.
“We are starting to run out of time and MRT Corp has been put in a very difficult situation, with tremendous pressure from the government to reach a solution on this matter quickly by end of this month and smoothly to get the MRT project going,” he told a press conference.
He added that the MRT Corp does not intend to demolish any shoplot in Chinatown but only wants to carry out construction works beneath the shoplots, without causing any adverse impact.
“Its a tunnel, we are not going to demolish the shoplots,” he said.
