Perkasa moots security guards for mosques
In the wake of two recent incidents where pig heads were found at mosques, Malay pressure group Perkasa is suggesting that mosques hire security guards to thwart similar incidents in the future.
"The prime minister's residence, the ministers' residences and even the menteri besar's residence have many security guards.
"Places of worship like mosques, suraus and madrasahs are our responsibility and should be guarded too," said Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali (right) in a press statement yesterday.
He said the all mosques should provide two shifts of guards using their own funds as well as assistance from the Islamic Affairs Department.
"While guarding the mosque, they can also pray. It is up to them how they want to manage it, as long as there are guards since these incidents keep happening."
Ibrahim's statement was in response to a pig's head discovered atNurul Iman Mosque in Rawang, Selangor, on Tuesday.
Another pig's head and other parts were also found outside the main gate of the Al-Hidayah Mosque in Jalan Sentul, Kuala Lumpur today.
The latest incident is the fifth of its kind since 2009.
The Selangor government yesterday offered a reward of RM10,000 in cash to any individual who could provide information leading to the capture of the culprits responsible for placing a pig head at the doorstep of the Rawang mosque.
Anyone with information can reach the Selangor state call centre hotline at .
