Federal Court summons shoe-throwing imam

The 46-year-old imam who hurled his shoes at a three member panel of judges last month, has today been served with a show cause letter to answer for his actions before the Federal Court tomorrow.

Hoslan Hussain told Malaysiakini that the police, in two patrol cars from Putrajaya, arrived at his home today in Cochrane to serve the notice on him.

"The letter from the Federal Court states that I have been asked to appear before it tomorrow at 9am to answer for my action of hurling the shoes. I will attend as required, as I feel I am in the right," he said.

NONEHoslan had on Feb 22 threw his shoes at a three member panel headed by Chief Judge of Malaya Zulkefli Ahmad Makinuddin (right), with Federal Court judge Suriyadi Halim Omar and Court of Appeal judge Zaleha Zahari.

The incident took place after the apex court refused to grant leave on his appeal regarding an eviction order from the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Council quarters, where he had been living since 2008.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court issued an order for him to be evicted in June last year. Hoslan appealed and it was at this hearing that he threw his shoes.

Following the decision, the imam has moved out of the quarters and is now staying in Cochrane.

Hoslan who was not represented in the proceeding on Feb 22, said he has appointed a lawyer to represent him tomorrow.
