TAWAU, May 13 — A non-governmental organisation, Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Negara or Perkasa, today suggested that a special unit be formed by the government to monitor the economic development, progress and achievements of Bumiputera in all sectors.
Its president, Datuk Ibrahim Ali, said the unit, to be named National Key Result Areas (NKRA) Monitoring Unit for Bumiputera Agenda, would be responsible to report on the economic development and progress of Bumiputera as part of the effort to raise Bumiputeta equity to 30 per cent by 2020.
“The unit will submit periodical reports, at least every two months, on the Bumiputera achievements in all economic sectors,” he told reporters after the launch of the Federation of East Coast Sabah Perkasa.
Also present was Sabah Perkasa president Datuk Dr Mohd Jeffry Osman.
Ibrahim said the setting up of the unit was among some of the affirmative measures proposed by Perkasa to uplift the economic standard of the Bumiputera, including in Sabah.
In another development, Ibrahim said he supported the proposal to form a new Bar Council as the existing one failed to play its role professionally, was unethical and bias when dealing with current issues in the country.
“The views of this body always favour the opposition. This does not mean that I want them to support the government, but they have to be professional.
“Even if they totally support the government, I’ll not agree because the Bar Council should be professional and independent,” he added. — Bernama
