Emergency motion on defence paper sale rejected

An emergency motion for the Defence Ministry to answer allegations about the alleged sale of a confidential document related to the Scorpene-class submarines to a French defence company has been denied.

NONEThe Dewan Rakyat speaker today rejectedthe motion filed last Thursday by Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar (left) under Standing Orders 18(11).

The motion came after Joseph Breham, the French lawyer for human rights NGO Suaram, revealed on May 30 that in its corruption case against French shipbuilder DCNS, a French company had allegedly paid 36 million euro (RM142 million) to Terasasi (Hong Kong) Ltd.
It is alleged that the sum was for a copy of the Malaysian navy’s evaluation of the purchase of the submarines.
