SUPPRESSING WHISTLE BLOWERS: EC lodges report against man who voted twice in GE

KUALA LUMPUR- The Election Commission (EC) has lodged a police report against Zulkifli Ismail for claiming that he voted twice in a general election.

Its secretary, Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed Baria, said Zulkifli had also accused the EC of cheating, in alleging that a single name could be used at all voting centres, besides making several accusations which slandered the commission.

"Based on his allegations and accusations, I lodged a report today, to protect the good name and integrity of the EC as an independent body set up by the Federal Constitution.

"It is also to enable further investigations to be conducted to ensure no other parties arbitrarily cast allegations and accusations to slander the commission," he said in a statement here.

The political newspaper, Harakah, dated June 11-14, 2012, had published a report of Zulkilfi claiming he had voted twice at a general election in the 1980s at the Permatang State Assembly and Kunci Air Tanjung Karang.
