API-API KOTA KINABALU OVERCHARGED PARKING FEE

SHOP owners and business operators at Api-Api center are feeling the pinch over the high parking fee imposed by the management. Special Assistant to KK MP Hiew King Cheu Andrew Lee Chee Kiong managed to meet a number of business operators who are very disappointed over this issue.

He was told that business operators tried meeting up with the management to discuss on how this issue of high parking fees can be reduce, however the management refuse to cooperate. The fee is ridiculously high and it's blood sucking. Business in the area dropped by at least 20% ever since the high parking fee was imposed.
He was made to understand that Api-Api Center parking lots were previously managed by (DBKK). Parking fees then was reasonable and everyone could afford it.

Why and how the drastic increase was approved by the relevant authorities? What went wrong that DBKK could not manage these parking lots that lead to a transfer of management?

Andrew Lee also detected that parking fees in the open space are more expensive compared to the covered car park. RM 2 for the first hour and RM 1 for every subsequent hour. If a vehicle owner parks at this lots and works at Api-Api Center, he or she will be paying at least RM10 per day and RM200 per month.

Most people would say it's just too much to handle. This is going out of hand. This leads to illegal or double parking if one is trying to avoid paying high parking fees.

To Andrew understanding, Api-api parking fees are one of the highest in Malaysia. How can that be? It just doesn't make sense. Parking fees in Selangor is far much cheaper than the one at Api-api Center.

The price now is three to four times higher than the previous fees. This is unacceptable and the management of Api-api Parking lots should be more sensitive towards the public and not to be too money driven.

Sabah DAP urge DBKK and the Api-api parking management to reconsider imposing high parking fees and to take up certain measures to lower the fees by at least 50%.

In another related matter, Andrew Lee had also inspected the basement car park at Api-Api Center and found that the car park is not well lighted. It’s rather dark at most corners and this will be dangerous especially for ladies.

They will be targeted by inconsiderate and irresponsible selfish individuals. Andrew urges the management of the Api Api car park to brighten up the area for every ones safety. (DAP Media)
