Authenticity of Rafizi's LRT evidence questioned

Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad, the government-linked company that owns and operates the LRT service, has denied that the Ampang LRT extension project worth over RM1 billion has been awarded to a consortium led by George Kent Berhad.

NONEIt questioned the authenticity of the documents disclosed by PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli (left) showing that Prime Minister and Finance Minister Najib Abdul Razak had awarded the project to George Kent.

"The documents in question may not be genuine," Prasarana group managing director Shahril Mokhtar was quoted as saying by the Financial Daily today.

On Tuesday, Rafizi produced documents to prove Najib's alleged  interference in the awarding of Ampang LRT extension project.

The documents are portions of minutes of the fifth meeting by the Finance Ministry's Procurement Committee (JPMK) on June 21, which Najib chairs, as well as a letter on the committee's decision dated June 25 to Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad.

In the letter addressed to Shahril read out by Rafizi, it was stated that JPMK convened in a meeting on June 21 agreed to appoint tenderer George Kent - Lion Pacific JV for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Testing and Commissioning of System Works for the Ampang (AMG) Line Extension Project for RM1,180,037,624 to be completed in 44 months.

NONEHowever, Shahril reportedly told the media yesterday that no letter of award has been issued to George Kent.

According to the Financial Daily, Prasarana chairperson Ismail Adam (right) said Prasarana will abide by the decision of Finance Ministry (MOF) regarding the selection of the project's contractor.

"As far as Prasarana is concerned, for certain projects, the decision-making process is beyond us. In this case, the value of the project is about RM1 billion, so it goes to the MOF. On our side, whoever the government decides, we will work with them," he said.

Najib has yet to respond to the issue.
