BN demand proof of Unisel's financial health

Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairperson Noh Omar today challenged Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to reveal the financial position of Universiti Selangor (Unisel) in a week.

He said Khalid should provide details of Unisel's finances, including its cash and debts, to counter allegations that Unisel was in debt.

"I have a report on the latest accounts of Unisel and it shows that the university is in dire straits. I would not say this if I do not have the evidence," he told a media conference at the Selangor Umno building in Shah Alam.

Noh, who is Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, said that after the opposition pact took over Unisel, various problems cropped up, including a change of vice-chancellor and the resignation of several individuals whose places were taken over by leaders from PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

He said the Selangor government appointed three politicians, namely the menteri besar's political secretary Faekah Hussin, Merbok Member of Parliament Datuk Rashid Din and Hulu Langat Member of Parliament Che Rosli Che Mat, as members of the university's board of directors.

"Previously, under the BN administration of Selangor, only one state government representative - the education executive council member - was appointed," he said.

"Now, the state government has its people to influence any action or decision made by the university," he added.

Noh also questioned the state government's decision in appointing three deputy vice-chancellors on the Jusa B Grade, compared to only one when the BN was in power, and also creating the post of senior registrar on the same salary grade in the Unisel administration.
Noh also demanded that Abdul Khalid keep his promise to provide information on contracts awarded by the Selangor government through direct negotiation.

"I want them to do it soon, or they can do it during the Selangor State assembly sitting scheduled for July 9," he said.
