Explain ‘land scams’ Khalid

The Selangor government must clarify allegations regarding three land issues involving the Indian community.

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim’s continued silence over several land issues involving the Indian community in the state is irking MIC.

MIC Youth wing chairman T Mohan claimed the state government was ‘pretending’ to be in the dark over “land scams” involving the Midland Tamil school, Bukit Raja Estate and in Kampung Bunga Raya in Serendah.

“It’s all very suspicious. These issues have been widely raised in the mainstream media but Khalid Ibrahim has kept mum.

“He has also rejected any attempts (by the affected groups) to meet him regarding the land fiasco.

“We want the state government to clear the air within a week.

“If it fails to do so then it is clear that the state government is not in a position to cater for the interest of Indians in Selangor,” he told reporters at the party headquarters here today.

Mohan also said that if the state government continued to ignore their demands for clarification, then they would have to take “drastic action”. He however declined to say what the drastic action was.

Recently, former Bukit Raja Estate plantation workers accused Subang parliamentarian R Sivarasa and Selangor state exco Dr Xavier Jayakumar of ‘cheating’.

They alleged that both elected representatives had ‘diverted’ eight of the 15 acres land allocated to them.

They also provided a document penned by Sivarasa as an evidence that plantation giant Sime Darby had agreed to provide 15 acres to build houses for the ex-plantation workers.

However, both Sivarasa and Jayakumar have refuted the plantation workers’ claims and arguments.

‘Only tip of iceberg’

The PKR leaders claimed that the real issue was not the 15 acres land but that the court had ruled in their favour on the issue.

Similarly, the Klang Consumer Association recently alleged that the development of the Midland Tamil school was just another project to enrich Pakatan Rakyat cronies.

The association demanded the Selangor government reveal the detail of the sales and purchase agreement between the state and I-City Bhd.

The association alleged that the Khalid-led administration had made a hefty profit by allegedly selling four acres of land originally given to the school.

It is learnt that the state government only gave the school a grant of RM3 million when the land was valued at more than RM20 million.

Mohan said the Kampung Bunga Raya case was similar to that of Bukit Raja estate.

Here to the state government had allegedly diverted three acres out of the 10 acres awarded to the Kampung Bunga Raya residents.

“All these are just the tip of the iceberg. There are several other cases involving the state government.

“Since the MB chose to ignore and not meet the victims, MIC is very sure that there is something fishy.

“If they (state government) are so clean, then they should come out and openly explain this issues,” he said, adding that MIC has also lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
