BANGI, July 8 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today called on Selangor voters to give Barisan Nasional (BN) another chance to rule the state, which is now under Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
Najib said today that BN had contributed significantly to the state before losing it to PR in 2008 and this was reflected in the Selangor’s ability to maintain economic stability, making it the richest state in the country.
“Give us a chance, we have proven we can maintain peace and stability and we promise progress will be made.
“Promises fulfilled is not only a slogan, but proof BN can carry out all that we have promised,” Najib said today to a 50,000-strong crowd at the sixth series of BN’s Promises Fulfilled campaign in Selangor here.
He added BN must win in Selangor for the betterment of the state’s future.
“We need victory. If we win, through the people’s mandate, the future of Selangor will be better,” he said.
Najib dismissed promises made by Selangor PR leaders, saying none of it have been fulfilled.
“Before 2008, PR made a lot of promises. What happened to those promises? Where are they? We have to place responsibility to a state government that has ruled the past four years.
“We are nearing the general election, yet there is no indication that past promises will be fulfilled,” he said.
“Today, they make more promises in their Buka Jingga (manifesto), many of which if implemented, will ruin the country,” he added.
Najib admitted BN made many mistakes during the 2008 election, but he promised to make up for past mistakes by giving the best to the people of Selangor if they present mandate to BN in the upcoming general election.
“Maybe we made some mistakes in the last election, but we will always be the best in future,” he said.
The premier also said he was overwhelmed by the support he received in the opposition-led state today, saying “this many people here today is a good indication in Selangor”.
