KLIA2 ... We have a problem ...

Having supplied a 'faulty' air traffic system for the Subang airport, the son of former Finance minister and current Malaysian ambassador to Washington Jamaluddin Jarjis has been awarded another contract - to provide traffic control equipment for KLIA2, the budget airport being constructed in Sepang.
Lembah Pantai member of parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar , who earlier revealed the faulty system supplied at Subang by Advanced Air Traffic System (M) Sdn Bhd, has disclosed that the company had failed the bidding process.
She said AAT, linked to Jamaluddin’s son Ikwan Hafiz Jamaluddin through a company called Tirai Variasi, was one of three companies which tendered for the air traffic control system for KLIA2.
But AECOM, the consultant for Malaysia Airports Holdings, had concluded that AMP Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd (AMCOP) was more qualified for the job.
“Despite the technical report by AECOM dated 9 December 2011 recognising AMCOP’s capability to execute the project, the project was given to AAT, a company which according to the evaluation has failed to fulfil the technical specifications for the project,” said Nurul.
The PKR vice president said although AAT’s bidding price was lower, the chosen company must pass all technical aspects.
She added that AMCOP had been recommended at a meeting by MAHB’s special procurement committee on March 15, 2012.
Nurul expressed shock over AAT's appointment as it was involved in controversy over the faulty radar MIP-2 system jointly developed with Selex Sistemi Integrati at the National Air Traffic Control Centre (NATCC) in Subang airport.
As such, she urged MAHB and the Transport ministry to come clean.
Prior to this, AirAsia group chief executive Tony Fernandes hit out at the escalating construction cost of the KLIA2, which is said to have now topped RM5 billion.
