KTAR land: The motive to DESTROY MCA - Soi Lek points finger at DAP
KUALA LUMPUR- MCA has denied a rumour that the party is selling a plot of land near the Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) here.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the rumour was aimed merely at smearing the reputation of MCA as the general election is drawing nearer in order to break the unity, confidence and morale of party members.
“I expect more of such acts to come and I urge party members to be on alert and do not be manipulated by these rumours.
“The motive to destroy MCA is clear as the rumour was spread right after the DAP insulted the inception of TARC during the debate on Sunday as there are people who do not wish to see the success of TARC,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
He was commenting on a Chinese daily report yesterday that MCA had plans to sell for RM100 million the plot of land in Setapak next to where its Tunku Abdul Rahman College is, to a RM2 company.
The daily also reported that speculation about the sale of the 45-acre plot of land to a company with links to the party had caused unhappiness among members and former leaders who were concerned with how such a move would be viewed by the Chinese community.
The newspaper said it had been approached by a number of party veterans and former leaders with news of the sale.
However, Dr Chua, who is also TARC Council chairman, clarified that there was no plan to sell the land but the college had actually discussed on expanding it through developing the land, which includes the construction of new student hostels, more school buildings and a vocational school.
“The biggest challenge in developing the land is to resettle the squatters as there are about 400 houses and shop lots including a branch office of an opposition party illegally built on the land,” he said.
