PADANG RENGAS, July 28 — Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said PAS’s decision to implement hudud law, which is opposed by the DAP, shows that co-operation within the opposition is not sincere and only meant to bring down Barisan Nasional (BN).
Nazri (picture) said the opposition hoped to topple the BN government in the 13th general election and had no intention of forming a government to manage the people’s affairs.
“Their coalition is not a strong one... they conspire to bring down BN, not to help or put the people first,” he told reporters after presenting a hearse donated by Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) during the breaking of fast at the Kati mosque here today.
Nazri, who is also minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, was commenting on a statement by Kelantan Mentri Besar and PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat yesterday, which echoed the party’s stand on championing hudud law despite the DAP’s disapproval.
DAP chairman Karpal Singh was reported to have asked PAS leaders not to continuously bring up the issue of hudud law and Muslim country which could inhibit the opposition coalition’s progress to Putrajaya. — Bernama
