So the danger is not in my words. The danger is in my silence. And I think for the next one week maybe I should just remain silent and say nothing more. And maybe I should also close the comments section so that I need not hear from you as well.
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
As long as the father continues to scold his child that is a sign he still loves the child. Even if occasionally the father is forced to cane the child it can only be out of love. The day the father stops loving the child he would no longer bother with the scolding or the caning. He would just chase the child out of the house and tell him or her to never set foot in the house again and that he does not wish to ever see his or her face again.
I suppose the scolding or caning is a sign of love. The father loves the child and wishes for the child to grow up right. A father who does not love the child would not bother. He does not care. He does not want to share the same house with the child. In fact, he never wants to even see the child’s face.
I suppose this would describe exactly how I feel. I look at the 600,000 readers who come to Malaysia Today as my ‘children’ who wish to share the same space under my roof. And when they are biadap (insolent), as many of you are, I feel hurt, as any father would if his child is biadap towards him. The more you love the child the more you would feel hurt. If you do not love the child you would not feel hurt. You would only feel outrage and would whack the child’s head and throw him or her out of the house.
A father who is not a racist would also feel concerned if his child says or does something racist. The father would be alarmed that the child is turning into a racist. And the father would surely not tolerate such conduct and would give the child a piece of his mind. In fact, in such a situation, he might even use the cane rather than spare the rod and spoil the child.
Yes, I rant and I rave, and I lament non-stop, as any father would to an incorrigible child. That is not the danger. The danger would be when I keep quiet and say nothing. If I keep quiet and say nothing and for weeks you hear nothing further from me, this can only mean I have given up on you and have now disowned you. It would mean I no longer regard you and treat you as my child.
So the danger is not in my words. The danger is in my silence. And I think for the next one week maybe I should just remain silent and say nothing more. And maybe I should also close the comments section so that I need not hear from you as well.
The number of racist statements today, many which I have had to delete, are alarming. It has made me wonder whether I have achieved anything at all these last many years. Those most racist are those who accuse the other side of being racist. It is like a whore accusing a whore of being a whore. The reality is both are whores.
Honestly, if all you want is to remove one racist government with another racist government, then don’t bother. We might as well just keep the racist government that we already have. After all, as what the Chinese say, is it not better to deal with a devil you know than a devil you don’t know? So let’s listen to Chinese sayings. At least this should make the Chinese happy.
