(The Star) - The Selangor government Thursday handed over a memorandum to the Federal Government detailing its plans to take over Syabas' operations in the state.
State executive councillors Dr Xavier Jayakumar and Ronnie Liu presented the memorandum, addressed to Energy, Green Technology and WaterMinister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui, here Thursday.
They reiterated the state's position that it was well within the Selangor government's powers to take over from Syabas as provided for under the concession agreement.
Dr Xavier said the concession agreement signed between the state and Federal governments and Syabas provided the state government with the power to step in at any time Syabas failed to deliver its end of the deal.
"Syabas has gone against several conditions until now, so we decided to take action and under clause 32 of the concession agreement, the state can step in to take over the management of Syabas to improve the water industry and services in Selangor," he said after handing over the memorandum to a senior ministry official.
