KUALA LUMPUR - Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is now the man to speak to on any issue related to the Selangor water crisis, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister (KeTTHA) Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui said today.
Refusing to comment on any developments, Chin said it was only right that Muhyiddin, as chairman of the special cabinet committee looking into the issue, be respected in his position.
"As head of the cabinet committee, it is only proper that any disclosure of information on subjects related to the water crisis be handled by him.
"Muhyiddin is the one to ask, ask him," Chin said at a press briefing after launching the conference call for the International GreenTech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference 2012 today.
The cabinet committee had been set up on July 18 to tackle the 'serious' conflict between the Selangor state government and water supplier and distributor Syabas after each refused to take responsibility for an impending water crisis that has seen Syabas announcing the possibility of water rationing in the state.
"Let us respect Muhyiddin as the head of the committee.
"However, even though I won't comment, I am more than willing to take any questions and pass it to Muhyiddin and the committee for discussion," Chin said.
Nuclear NEXT
On a claim that the government had identified seven potential locations for nuclear plants in the country, Chin said he had heard nothing of it.
"I have received no report on this, and I don't know where this news comes from.
"There has, of course, been no progress into this because what progress could there be," he said.
The Malaysian Coalition Against Nuclear (MyCan) alleged on July 19 that the government had, through the Malaysian Nuclear Power Corporation, secretly identified seven sites in Kedah, Perak, Terengganu and Johor for twin-unit nuclear power plants.
Meanwhile, KeTTHA secretary-general Datuk Loo Took Gee said the ministry would be sending officials to the public briefing organised by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) held today (July 25).
"There will be ministry representation at the forum.
"We are sending officials from KeTTHA to explain how the Feed-In Tariff system works to the forum's attendees," she said.
Seda organised the public briefing after coming under fire when it awarded 12 companies linked to former chief secretary Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan's daughter and her husband 32.4% of the solar energy quota under the National Renewable Energy Policy and Action Plan.
