Suaram given seven days to submit documents to CCM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Suara Inisiatif Sdn Bhd, the company allegedly linked to Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), has been given seven days to submit the relevant documents on the company to the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM).
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a notice on the directive was handed to the company secretary yesterday and also through registered mail under Section 7B (2) of the Companies Act 1965.
He said the notice ordered Suara Inisiaif to hand over documents, including those on the formation of the company and financial statements, to the CCM.
“Routine checks on companies are the normal practice of the CCM. All companies, including government and government-linked companies, are subject to the Companies Act 1965.”
He said this today when asked by reporters to comment on the status of Suaram after opening the Franchise International Malaysia Exhibition 2012 (FIM2012) at the Putra World Trade Centre, here.
Ismail Sabri said in 2011, 1.094 million routine checks were conducted on companies.
“If the over one million companies checked by the CCM have no problem with it, what is Suaram’s problem? Are they regarding themselves as untouchable? If they have nothing to hide, what’s the problem for Suaram to the extent that they are unhappy over a routine check?”
Last Sunday, Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Azwanddin Hamzah claimed that Suaram was not registered as a non-governmental organisation with the Registrar of Societies but as a company, Suara Inisiatif Sdn Bhd.
Azwanddin who checked with the CCM, claimed that the company’s income stood at  RM497,137 in 2009 and RM411,226 in 2010. — Bernama
