SHAH ALAM, July 25 ― The workers union of a Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) subsidiary protested outside the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (SSAAS) building today against the state government’s plan to take control of the utility’s operations.
About 70 workers from Perbadanan Urus Air Selangor Berhad (PUAS), led by the union president Abdul Aziz Ali, held banners and placards calling for the Langat 2 water treatment plant to be approved and protesting the announced takeover.
“Syabas has been taking very good care of our welfare and benefits, and we doubt that the state government has the same interests,” said Abdul Aziz.
Three representatives from the union were allowed in to present their memorandum on the matter to Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
Last week, Khalid announced that the state would be invoking clause 32 of the concession agreement between Syabas, Selangor and the federal government in order to gain control of waterworks in the state.
