Tourism Board not as wasteful as PAS thinks

It paid only RM42 for a rubber wrist band.
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board is apparently more careful with its spending than Jerai MP Mohd Firdaus Jaafar would have us believe.
For example, it paid only RM42 for a rubber wrist band, according to the 2010 National Audit Report, not RM1,000 as Firdaus alleged two weeks ago at a PAS ceramah in Seremban.
Table 7.7 in the report clearly states that the board bought 1, 000 pieces of rubber wrist bands for RM42, 000.
Firdaus must have confused total prices with prices per unit when he checked the report and thus also gave inflated figures for the other items he mentioned.
The report says the board paid RM18 per hat, RM45 per canvas bag, RM87 per novelty crystal pen and RM100 per silk tie.
FMT has been unable to contact Firdaus for his comments.
