‘Big fish’ are still swimming

‘Big fish’ are still swimming
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek is probably correct to say that Malaysians are mature enough to consider other factors before they decide on which type of government they would like for the country.
However, he failed to understand that despite the people having been staunchly supportive of the government, corrupt practices and abuse of government funds continue to be rampant in the country.
Each year the auditor-general's report has always been less than flattering on the government and yet the people have not seen any real concrete attempts by the government to rectify the situation. Yes, there have been lukewarm attempts where some small and medium-size fishes were caught and charged, but the big ones are still swimming.
Since the last general election, there has been an increase in the number of politically-aware Malaysians and they know the power of their vote. Previously, the people were not keen to rock the boat and were prepared to close an eye on all the reported scandals involving government officials and politicians alike.
But times have changed and the ordinary folks now expect more from their elected representatives. They also don't want those who often use race and religion as their trump cards. It's such an outdated strategy.
