Dr Hasan can appeal against demotion, says Tiong Lai

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 4 – Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman, who was suspended as the director-general of health following a ‘khalwat’ (close proximity) case, can appeal against his demotion by one grade by the Public Service Commission (PSC), Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said today.
Dr Hasan could also opt for early retirement, he added.
“We will leave it to him to decide what he wants to do next,” Liow (picture) told reporters after the monthly assembly of the ministry and the launch of the Clearinghouse for Research on Disability, here.
In a statement yesterday, PSC chairman Tan Sri Mahmood Adam said Dr Hasan was demoted one grade lower than his Medical Officer Staff II Main Grade in accordance with Regulation 33(1) of the Public Officers Regulations (Conduct and Discipline) 1993.
Mahmood said the PSC also decided that Grade U41 nurse Wan Syarifah Nooraazmanita Wan Hassan, who was involved in the case, be subjected to a drop of three salary movements for a period of 12 months.
On Nov 14, Dr Hasan, 56, and Wan Syarifah Nooraazmanita, 36, were fined RM3,000 and RM2,900, respectively, by the Syariah High Court after they pleaded guilty to ‘khalwat’ at a room of the Putrajaya Pullman Hotel at 2.18am on that day. – Bernama
