Ex-policemen body regrets Nurul Izzah's statement

Ex-policemen body regrets Nurul Izzah's statement
BESUT - The statement by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar that recruitment of police personnel be frozen shows that she is not concerned about the country's safety.
Chairman of Terengganu branch of Malaysian Ex-Policemen's Association, Hussin Awang Ngah said the statement was just to fish for votes during the general election.
"As former policemen, we regret the statement as police personnel have to sacrifice a lot of time to maintain security due to lack of manpower," he told Bernama here today.
Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah called for a freeze on recruitment as the ratio of policemen to the country's population is above international standard.
She claimed that the ratio of policemen to the population has reached 270, exceeding the ratio recommended by International Police (Interpol) of one policeman for every 250 residents.
Hussin feared that if the freeze on recruitment of policemen was implemented, the security of the country would become uncontrollable.
"We must be thankful for the peace achieved with the assistance of the police force, making Malaysia the 18th safest country in the world," he added.
