HSBC keeps mum over Xmas anti-Lynas protest
HSBC Malaysia has refused to comment on the Christmas day Himpunan Hijau demonstration in front of its Kuantan branch over its involvement with the Australian Lynas Corporation.
"Moving forward, we don't know what is going to happen, but right now there is no comment", said a corporate relationship department staff member of HSBC Malaysia, requesting anonymity, when contacted by Malaysiakini today.
However, the news portal had sent an email today to the media contact official at the bank's London headquarters, seeking further comment and is awaiting a response.
Himpunan Hijau had held thedemonstrationin front of the international bank's branch at Jalan Mahkota, Kuantan three days ago over its involvement with Australia Lynas Corporation.
They claim that the bank was financing Lynas, thereby contributing to environmental degradation.
Malaysiakini's repeated attempts to contact the bank's local headquarters public relations personnel for comments over the past few days all ended in failure.
