Re-tendered hospital project to be ready next October

The problematic 300-bed Shah Alam Hospital which was previously abandoned in 2010, is scheduled to be completed on schedule in October 2013 after the project had been re-tendered.

NONEWorks Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor said the structural work on the hospital is 98 percent completed, but awaiting pending mechanical and electrical works.

“However, the work is scheduled to be completed in October 2013. The hospital will provide 300 beds and will help ease congestion at the Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang,” he said.

“The project had been re-tendered for RM410 million and work began on Oct 19, 2010.”

Previously, the project was slated to cost RM482.6 million and it was constructed midway before being abandoned and the contractor being replaced.

However, Shaziman said he does not have the cost over-run figure run on the project and asked reporters to look at his answers in parliament.

The works minister said the claims of the Shah Alam MP (Khalid Abdul Samad) that there are no workers working here and the project is delayed further, are not true.

NONE“There are 750 workers working on-site and there are Works Ministry personnel monitoring it round the clock,” he said.

Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai (centre in photo) said his ministry had been working closely with the Works Ministry to ensure that this project stays on schedule.
