Senior lawyer and son in spotlight over Bala's SD2

A senior lawyer and his son, also a lawyer, has been dragged into the limelight in the latest expose by carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan on what allegedly took place over former private-eye P Balasubramaniam's second statutory declaration (SD) saga.

NONEThis was revealed in a series of explosiverevelations by Deepak (left), who claimed to be personally involved in the "flipping" of PI Bala who had justsigned an SD earlier linking Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak with murdered Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.

The lawyer's name was supposedly mentioned by Deepak in a video interview with PAS organ Harakah which was posted on YouTube, with the name edited out.

In the interview, the businessperson had related how the senior lawyer had drafted and prepared the document along with the latter’s son, though only his son came to see the other parties involved at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur where the former PI was allegedly “kept”.

The senior lawyer was fingered, though not named, by human rights activist Harris Ibrahim on his blog post three days ago.

The latter has proceeded to lodge a report with the Malaysian Bar earlier today.

Harris, in his letter to the Bar, "formally put this matter before the Bar Council and to ask that an investigation be launched forthwith: to identify the solicitor(s) concerned; and ascertain if there was any impropriety in the preparation of SD2".

NONEBar Council president Lim Chee Wee is expected to issue an official statement tomorrow.

Today, former federal minister Zaid Ibrahim(right) did the same, pointing out that the senior lawyer in question was the same one who sits on one of five Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) panels.

PI Bala had claimed in an interview with Malaysiakinithat he signed the second SD out of fear.

However, Deepak's recent series of revelations painted a different picture, alleging that Bala signed it for money.
Malaysiakini is withholding the name of the senior lawyer and his son pending their response to our inquiries.
