Prime Minister, Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak must call for a special sitting of Parliament to explain to all Malaysians and Members of Parliament the actual nature of the problem in Lahad Datu.
It is reported that on Feb 12, boats ferrying over 100 armed men wearing military fatigues landed on Lahad Datu's shores.
The group had demanded to be recognized as the Royal Soldiers of the Sultanate of Sulu, and did not want citizens of Sulu origin in Sabah to be sent back to the Philippines.
Despite the serious nature of the problem, there is little reporting about it and almost no information given to us by the government.
In fact, the Prime Minister was yesterday quoted as saying that he will not hold elections until his transformation policies succeed.
This is strange. We are under attack, with armed soldiers in Sabah and our Prime Minister talks about elections and his transformation policies? How does a country dissolve Parliament in the midst of attack?
Security the priority
The Prime Minister should further understand that a security breach should take priority over his transformation plans. It is absurd to find a Prime Minister speaking about the need to delay polls because of focus on economic transformation plans whilst he is totally silent on Sabah.
Reports from neighbouring nations suggest that the problem in Lahad Datu is serious and it may not be resolved soon. On the sides, there is still the threat of further forced occupation and even violence.
The Prime Minister must tell us what is happening and why it is our forces have held back in taking action in Sabah. He should give this matter top priority.
