'Black' rally no. 5 hits Johor

'Black' rally no. 5 hits Johor
Reenacting mammoth rallies in Petaling Jaya, Ipoh, Penang and Kuantan since May 8, the ‘Blackout 505' rally to protest frauds in the just-concluded general election hit Johor last night.

Tens of thousands of people flocked to Taman Puteri Wangsa in Ulu Tiram, Johor despite rain and organisers being forced to change venue twice at the last-minute.

In attendance were PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, DAP advisor and the new Gelang Patah member of parliament Lim Kit Siang, PAS vice president Salahuddin Ayub and election director Dr Hatta Ramli.

Salahuddin stressed that despite losing narrowly in Pulai against BN's Nur Jazlan Mohamed, he would continue to fight for Johoreans.

“I will stay and fight with you right until the demise of Barisan Nasional,” he told a spirited crowd.

Lim said if the election was fair, Pakatan Rakyat would have garnered 60 to 65 percent popular votes instead of 51 percent in the last election.

The DAP veteran also provided statistics to dispel prime minister Najib Razak’s ‘Chinese Tsunami’ description as the reason behind BN’s worst performance in history.

“Out of the 5.04 million [popular] votes obtained by PR [in Peninsular Malaysia], 2.31 million votes from the Malay voters, 2.29 million votes from the Chinese voters and 400 thousands from the Indian voters and 35 thousands from others,” said Lim.

Lim mocked Najib’s newly announced cabinet for retaining Hishamuddin Hussein, the former Home minister, as the Defence minister.

“Some who fail to carry out responsibility to ensure the people's safety, can he now guarantee the security of the country?” he asked.

In concluding the rally, Anwar again warned BN and the Election Commission that he would never give up until PR was announced the victor in the just-concluded election.

He strongly dismissed any suggestion that BN be allowed to rule for another five years, saying there was no way the people could tolerate the fraudulent manner BN had won.

On the new cabinet, Anwar had this to say:

“Najib forgets to pay tribute to the people who helped him and BN to secure victory. He forgets to appoint a Banglasia’s deputy minister,” he said, referring to video footages showing Bangladeshis and other foreigners voting on May 5.

The next 'Blackout 505' rally will be held tomorrow in Seremban, and in Kota Kinabalu over the weekend.
