CAPS QUERIES RAISED PRICE OF BREAD

By : DONNY YAPP TAI HUA
KOTA KINABALU : In respond to Gardenia's statement issued in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (carried by Daily Express business page today) on there was no price hike in bread in the whole Peninsular, CAPS would like to ask the same why was there a hike in Sabah for the same food item.

This is unfair to Sabahan consumers who are already paying for a much higher prices of all other consumer products.
We want the authorities concerned to promptly look at things here to protect our consumers.

We have been receiving reports from Sabah consumers that there had been a price hike for Gardenia's bread in many towns in Sabah, some reaching 40 sen for a 600 gramme bread.

The 400 gram bread that previously cost RM2.70 is now being sold at RM3.00, while a 600 gramme bread that used to cost RM3.80 is now being sold at RM4.20.

CAPS continued to receive reports from across the state on the price hike. We do hope Gardenia would look into this matter so as not to burden Sabah consumers unnecessarily and unfairly.

We are providing Gardenia with samples or pictures of price tags that showed the difference of the prices, now and previously.
