DAP will fully assist RoS probe, says Karpal

KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 — The DAP will give the Registrar of Societies (RoS) its full co-operation in its investigation into the complaints made over the legality of the recent party’s Central Executive Council (CEC) election.
Its chairman Karpal Singh in a statement here today also expressed hope for closure to the CEC issue as soon as possible.
He was commenting on RoS Director-General Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman’s statement in The Star newspaper yesterday that he expected a full explanation from DAP over alleged irregularities in the party’s CEC election.
Abdul Rahman had said that those earlier called for interviews could not come due to the general election, and the agency had so far recorded statements from eight people comprising six complainants and two of the party’s office- bearers, including DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
Karpal (picture) also welcomed Abdul Rahman’s statement that RoS had no intention of deregistering DAP as claimed by certain quarters.
On January 4, this year, Lim revealed that there were errors in the tabulation of votes in the party’s December 15, 2012 election that were caused by a technical glitch when the results were transferred to a computer using Microsoft Excel.
The amendments resulted in Lim’s political secretary, Zairil Khir Johari, moving up from 39th position to 20th, which is the last elected position in the party’s CEC.
Zairil’s votes were re-tallied at 803 compared to the 305 announced earlier.
Vincent Wu, who initially secured sixth spot with 1,202 votes, dropped to 26th as the party claimed he actually garnered only 669 votes.
Disgruntled members later lodged complaints with the RoS, claiming that the results were manipulated. — Bernama
