Fatwa council: Haram to topple gov't through violence
The National Fatwa Council has once again reiterated that it is “haram” for the government to be toppled by violent means.
Sinar Harian quoted the National Fatwa Council chairperson Abdul Shukor Husin as saying that holding street rallies with the intention of toppling the government can disrupt national unity.
“Any gathering that can sow disunity among the people is not suitable for Islam,” the paper quoted him as saying.
“The fatwa council had released a fatwa against such rallies during the Bersih 2.0 rally. So, this should not be repeated,” he added.
He was speaking to reporters after a seminar in Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) yesterday.
He said that demonstrations are not suitable because the country has an election system that enables the people to choose the government through democratic means.
