PKR pushes for greater control of Khalid's admin

PKR appears to be pushing for greater control of the Selangor government administration, with the state PKR proposing candidates not only for the executive council, but also for government-linked companies and the Menteri Besar's Office.

Among others, there appears to be heavy lobbying for Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's harshest critic, Azmin Ali, to take up the post of senior state executive councillor.

NONEHowever, Selangor PKR deputy chairperson Zuraida Kamaruddin (left) said this was not to take control of Khalid or the state resources, but to ensure that Pakatan Rakyat's policies are better translated at the state level.

"This is our proposal, for the state has not played an instrumental enough role in the last five years.

"In the 14th general election, we hope to have more solid back up from the government-linked companies and government networks, which are now not giving much support," Zuraida said.

As to whether or not this will materialise will depend on Khalid, who has final say.

The menteri besar is believed to be resisting this state PKR move, pushing de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim to play peacemaker between him and the party's Selangor leadership.

"He has put forth his arguments, but the process is that we propose and he decides," Zuraida said.
PKR incumbents expected to be dropped
It is expected that none of the incumbent PKR exco members will retain their posts as the Selangor PKR leadership wants to "give new people a chance".

"We want to give everyone a chance. Only then will we know who is better. We are a reformist party, so we believe with new faces will come new ideas," she said.

This would mean that Bukit Lanjan assemblyperson Elizabeth Wong, who is seen to be a strong backer of Khalid, will not be reappointed.

PKR had four exco members in the 2008 term, including Seri Andalas assemblyperson Dr Xavier Jeyakumar, Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Yaakob Sapari and Batu Tiga assemblyperson Rodziah Ismail

NONESelangor PKR wants Azmin, who is its state chairperson and national deputy president, in the senior exco post because of his seniority in the party.

A senior post may see Azmin overseeing portfolios administering Selangor's abundant resources, including land, investments and infrastructure.

While Zuraida refused to name the other two candidates, it is speculated that Selangor PKR is lobbying for Batu Caves assemblyperson Amiruddin Shari and Seri Setia assemblyperson Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Zuraida said PKR, which will take up three exco seats, is also taking on board the palace's "advice" to have more Malay representatives in the exco to "balance out the racial composition".

"The palace is a bit concerned because the DAP won 15 seats, but it was more a cautionary word and is not binding. This is to ensure racial balance.

"But PKR will have one non-Malay exco member, and is juggling this between a Chinese and an Indian representative, depending on DAP's final list," she said.

NONEDAP today named Sungai Pinang assemblyperson Teng Chang Khim and Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah as its choices for the exco, with one more person yet to be named.

The third person is speculated to either be Kota Alam Shah assemblyperson V Ganabatirao or Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh (left).

Although Xavier was part of the 2008 term exco, it is believed that he will be re-appointed if DAP does not pick Ganabatirao for its list.

The exco members are expected to be sworn in next week, with Khalid believed to be finalising the list by this weekend.

'Selangor PKR-friendly parties in MB's office'

Zuraida said once the exco is done with, the party will commence negotiations for posts in the GLCs as well as in the MB's office, and will favour those who are more friendly to the party.

It is an open secret that the Selangor PKR leadership do not see eye-to-eye with Khalid's political secretary Faekah Husin, who has fiercely defended Khalid since her appointment in 2010.

"We have proposed a change in office bearers, also to give everyone a chance and to have someone who is linked to the party to act as a bridge between the party and the MB.

"We also want someone who can do the MB's work in his constituencies of Port Klang and Bandar Tun Razak, as his winning majorities were not convincing, given his position as MB," she said.
