Pos Malaysia ups overseas parcel rate, irks netizens

National post courier Pos Malaysia Bhd’s decision to revise its international parcel tariff has caused much annoyance among those operating businesses online.

They now have to fork out as much as 400 percent more in postage than what they used to pay.

azlanAccording to those who made enquiries at post offices, the revision - which took effect from May 15 - was attributed to "petrol costs".

Pos Malaysia now charges a flat rate of RM60 for any parcel weighing less than 1kg, to destinations in Europe. The old rate was between RM15 and RM20.

Online business operators have claimed that the price revision is "killing" their international business opportunities.

This is because they are unable to significantly increase product prices in order to offset the postal charges.

Pos Malaysia has yet to release any statement on the revision, apart from a note posted on its website.

“The strategic initiatives include the streamlining of international services suite with price restructuring that will ultimately enhance customers’ experience and create better value,” this reads.

“In line with this, Pos Malaysia has revised the international mail and parcel tariffs, together with the destinations rezoning (with effect from) May 2013.”
