Different vote figures in DAP, EC polling forms

DAP and the Election Commission (EC) have documents showing different election results for one of the polling streams in for the Jelapang state seat in Perak, says the DAP.

In a statement issued yesterday, DAP Perak publicity chief Wong Kah Woh said DAP's Borang 14 for Polling Stream 3 at SRJK (C) Lahat shows its state assembly candidate Teh Hock Ke having obtained 330 votes, compared with 137 votes for the BN.

NONEHowever, the result for this stream announced by the EC was in the reverse, with the BN said to have received 330 votes against 137 for the DAP. The EC backed this with a different Borang 14.

"This is a very serious matter as under the election law, the result stated in Borang 14 is final," Wong (left) said in a statement yesterday.

If no explanation or rectification is received in seven days (from yesterday), he said, the DAP will lodge a report against the EC for illegally amending the election result.

The Borang 14 is a document that records votes tallied in each polling stream, and by law shall be the final election result. A copy is issued to each counting agent observing the process.

Wong said the EC's version of the result, which has been gazetted, is highly unlikely because the DAP's parliamentary candidate V Sivakumar garnered 373 votes in that stream, compared with BN's 141 votes.

In the other four streams at the SRJK (C) Lahat polling station, Wong said, Teh garnered between 58 and 67 percent of the popular votes, and Teh won the Jelapang state seat with more than 70 percent of the votes.

"It is impossible for DAP to get only 27 percent of the popular votes in this particular stream," he said.
Signatures on the two forms are different

Wong believes that one of the Borang 14 is likely to have been forged, because the handwriting for the figures in the copies of the form with the DAP and the EC are similar, but the signatures of the DAP, BN and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) counting agents and the presiding officer are different on the two forms.

NONE"This morning, the DAP counting agent personally confirmed that the Borang 14 with the DAP reflects the correct result.

"On these grounds, EC's Borang 14 for Polling Stream 3 is highly questionable and DAP strongly urges and demands the EC makes a conclusive explanation and rectification," Wong said.

Officially, DAP won Jelapang with 16,921 votes, a majority of 12,266 votes compared with the 4,655 votes received by BN's Mokan Supramaniam and 2,568 votes won by PSM's Sarasvathy Muthu (right}.

Although the discrepancy will not cost DAP the Jelapang seat, Wong said it would have made a difference in marginal seats such as Lubok Merbau, Manjoi and Pasir Panjang.

"This can change the final result as to which party forms the state government," he said.
