Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof received a threatening note and a severed chicken head in a parcel sent to his office here on Monday.
The parcel that was delivered from a post office in Petaling Jaya and addressed to Abdul Aziz was received by staff of the EC at about 2.30pm.
Kuala Lumpur police CID chief SAC Datuk Ku Chin Wah said on opening the parcel they found a printed note that read "Resign... or ...505".
He said there was also a rotting chicken head packed in a plastic bag in the parcel.
He said at 5pm on Tuesday, Abdul Aziz's secretary lodged a police report at the Putrajaya Presinct 7 police station.
"We have classified the case as criminal intimidation under Section 507 of the Penal Code and efforts to trace the sender are being carried out." he said.
Abdul Aziz became the target of criticism especially among opposition parties during the 13th General Election period and soon after polling day over alleged electoral irregularities and discrepancies.
Over the past month, opposition parties, student activist groups and non-governmental organisations took to the streets nationwide in rallies and protests themed "Black 505" calling for Abdul Aziz to step down and a revamp of the EC.
