EC’s Wan Ahmad on petitions: YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT!

EC’s Wan Ahmad on petitions: YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT!
Ahead of the June 12 deadline for filing petitions to challenge the results of the general election, the embattled Election Commission predicted that only a fraction of the petitions could even make it to the hearing stage in court.
“Of the 29 election petitions filed to challenge the 2008 general election results, only one was successful,” EC deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said.
Wan Ahmad, who alongside the EC chief Abdul Aziz Yusof is under pressure to resign following the duo's failure to ensure fraud-free polls, said no election petitions had been filed yet.
Under the law, the EC has the power to decide whether to hold a re-election in a constituency if its results are nullified by the court. The court's decision however can be challenged in the Federal Court.
Yesterday, PAS’s special committee on the 13th general election petitions said the party would be filing its share of election petitions disputing fourteen seats in six states.
Committee secretary Abang Ahmad Kerdee Abang Masagus pointed out that the petitions were being accompanied by strong proofs of electoral foul play.
