Hadi calls for independent commission for polls post-mortem

Hadi calls for independent commission for polls post-mortem
PAS has called for the setting up of an independent committee or commission to conduct post-mortem on the 13th general election focusing on weaknesses, wrongdoings and shortcomings from all parties.
“After all these are identified, only then the overall improvement can be made,” said PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang in a statement.
Hadi also backed the widely held view that the general election on May 5 was fraught with weaknesses.
Large-scale rallies had greeted allegations of fraud and cheating in the polls, with another major rally slated for June 15 in the capital to press for the resignation of the Election Commission's top duo, Abdul Aziz Yusof and Wan Ahmad Wan Omar.
Hadi, who is the Marang member of parliament, said many questions had been left unanswered before and after the polls, and zeroed in on the manner in which public-funded media were used to campaign for Barisan Nasional.
He added that all political parties including from BN were in agreement that the country's electoral system had serious shortcomings.
“The government has also stated its intention to put Election Commission under parliament, and this alone gives the impression that EC is not entirely free,” said Hadi, while adding that without knowing what went wrong, any attempt at addressing the problems was futile.
