MCMC summons Azmin's aide as witness

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a notice to an aide of PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to assist in its investigations by giving a witness statement tomorrow.

In a statement today, Azmin's special officer Hilman Idham said it is believed that the aide, Saiful Asraf Idris (right), is being called up in relation to a media statement issued by Azmin on Jan 18.

“We are (convinced) that this is a follow-up to investigations against Azmin, launched March 13,” said Hilman.

“The investigation pertains to a media statement he released... regarding the issue of distribution of identity cards in Sabah and a video uploaded onto YouTube, entitled 'Program Tukar Orang Melayu (Project IC by Mahathir)',” he added.

The video purportedly shows the issuance of identity cards to foreign nationals, while the media statement was a comment on the video.

Azmin has denied that he is involved in the production of the video. 

The investigation is being carried out under Section 255 of the Multimedia and Communications Act.
