PAS MP proposed as deputy parliament speaker

PAS MP proposed as deputy parliament speaker
PAS's Tumpat member of parliament Kamarudin Jaffar, who is also the party's former secretary general, has been named by Pakatan Rakyat as its preferred choice for the post of deputy parliamentary speaker.
PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim announced the decision on behalf of the coalition after component party leaders met at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
"We hope to help the Speaker in handling the running of the parliament, so the deputies must be chosen each from BN and PR,” said Anwar.
The Permatang Pauh MP said Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim had sent a letter to suggest former Federal Court judge Abdul Kadir Sulaiman to be appointed as Speaker, replacing Pandikar Amin Mulia.
Anwar said the post of speaker must be occupied by someone neutral, independent and credible, to ensure parliamentary debates can be conducted in transparent and fair manner.
PR, he said, also reminded that the election of the speaker by members of parliament should be determined through secret ballot.
BN had earlier said they wanted Pandikar, a former Sabah UMNO leader, to continue serving.
