Tee was top pick for Johor exco post, says MB

Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin reportedly said Tee Siew Kiong was one of several candidates for the exco that he recommended to the sultan.

Responding to MCA youth chief Wee Ka Siong's statement on Friday, Khaled conceded that the Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar had only asked for an ethnic Chinese representative on the exco lineup.

However, he added that it was the sultan who had the final say on who takes up the post.

"I had listed several Chinese assemblypersons in an audience with the sultan before the appointment of state excos.

"Tee's name was on top of the list and his majesty consented to his appointment. He now holds the tourism, trade, and consumerism portfolio in the state," he was quoted as saying in today's Utusan Malaysia.

Besides Tee, two other BN Chinese assemblypersons in Johor are Teoh Yap Kun (MCA-Paloh) and Lau Chin Hoon (Gerakan-Pemanis).

Tee's appointment had caused a stir because it went against his party's resolution that its members shall not to accept any government positions due to its poor performance in the 13th general election.

He has since been suspended from the party for three years, and complained that he felt that the punishment was too harshbecause he had no choice but to accept the post.
