Ukraine university wants status reviewed

Crimea State Medical University (CSMU) in Ukraine is keen to invite Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam to the varsity to review its status.
PETALING JAYA: Crimea State Medical University (CSMU) in Ukraine will invite Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam to the varsity to review its status after it was derecognised in 2005.
Recently, Subramaniam said his ministry would review the university’s status, following requests by CSMU.
CSMU received recognition 2001 and four years later dropped from the Malaysian list of foreign universities.
The Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) said it found serious weaknesses in the programme.
Former MIC president S Samy Vellu claimed that the move was politically motivated and an attempt to discriminate Indian medical students.
Most of the Malaysian students studying in the university were Indians.
In March this year, MMC announced that CSMU had been withdrawn from the second schedule of the 1971 Medical Act after a re-evaluation visit in October 2012.
Despite  the Prime Minister’s office requesting MMC to submit their report, the council had refused to reveal any information.
