JAKARTA - Five contract doctors of Tangerang Selatan Hospital (RSU Tansel) here who were involved in demonstrations to protest the presence of two Malaysian doctors at the hospital last week and on Monday, have been sacked by the by Tangerang Selatan Health Department.
Meanwhile, 18 staff doctors at the hospital were given warning letters over the episode.
In the demonstrations, they not only protested the presence of Malaysian doctors but also demanded the authorities to replace the Tangerang Selatan Hospital director whom they claimed did not have a medical background, Indonesia's Kompas daily reported on Wednesday.
The Tangerang Selatan Health Department was reported to have dismissed the five doctors for infringing their contract in leaving their posts to demonstrate.
But the hospital's medical committee head Daniel Richard alleged the five doctors had completed their duty earlier before joining the demonstration.
The Tangerang Selatan Health Department said the presence of the two doctors from Malaysia was merely to transfer knowledge to doctors at RSU Tangsel.
Tangsel Health Department head, Dadang Epid clarified that the five doctors from the hospital had their contracts terminated after they were found to be infringing the terms of their contracts.
