Crackdown is no publicity stunt, Zahid tells PKR

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today blasted PKR for suggesting that the crackdown on secret societies was a stunt to boost his credentials ahead of the Umno party election.

“I do not need such cheap publicity,” he retorted when asked to respond to PKR vice-president N Surendran’s assertion at a press conference in Putrajaya this morning.
NONEAhmad Zahid (left) pointed out that the crackdown’s operation, dubbed Ops Cantas, was announced by the police while the secret society list was announced by his ministry’s chief secretary.

“I didn’t announce it myself because I don’t have to claim political mileage.

“For what? (Claiming political mileage)... We have to separate politics and professionalism,” he said in annoyance.

Zahid, who will be defending his position as Umno vice-president in the upcoming party polls, warned his rivals against politicising criminal cases.

“Please lah, I am not giving a warning to these people but please stop, don’t politicise, please cooperate with the police and ministry.

“We are colour blind and so are the criminals... I am protecting everybody, not just Umno and BN but the whole nation,” he said.

He also pointedly told his political opponents to “go back to school” if they could not understand what he was saying.
