'Ku Li backs Najib, won't go for Umno presidency'

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah supports incumbent Umno president Najib Abdul Razak and will not want to dethrone him, says Umno secretary general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

"He is only casually talking... you have to wait and see," added Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister.

NONE"But I feel he will not contest... he knows what (reforms) Najib has carried out and he supports Najib to bring the country to developed status."

Tengku Adnan (right) also warned against any free-for-all power grabbing behaviour within Umno in its coming party leadership elections.

"While we give a chance for anyone to contest, I ask that members don't make a mockery out of it, " he told reporters this morning. "Measure the clothes first to see if it fits the body. Don't contest for the sake of contest and ruin the party."
Zahid said this when asked bout meetings among heads of Umno divisions in Janda Baik, Pahang, where Umno has its training centre.
Last week, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar named four Umno Youth leaders as set to contest for Umno supreme council posts.
NONEKhairy identified them as Umno Youth vice-chief Razali Ibrahim, information chief Reezal Merican Naina Merican, economic bureau chairperson Sohaimi Shahadan and new media unit chairperson Faisal Ismail Aziz.
Tengku Adnan said he was also open to another of Tengku Razaleigh's suggestions, that the Umno president not be allowed to serve for more than three terms.

"This has its good and bad points, and we can look further into that," he told reporters after watching the first futsal match at a new open stadium in Brickfields, near the former Travers Road police station.

Tengku Razaleigh, or Ku Li as he is widely known, is the Gua Musang MP and the Umno division chief there, said he has not decidedwhether or not to agree to be nominated for the post of Umno president come nomination day on Sept 21.

"I need to consider whether I am wanted or not and whether I can do the job," Tengku Razaleigh told reporters last Friday.
