SHAH ALAM - Bringing down the crime rate and getting the community to be involved in looking after the national security will be the main agenda of the new Selangor police chief, SDCP Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan.
The former Perak Police Chief said the effort would be carried out continuously to regain public confidence in the efforts of the police to look after public security in Selangor which is among the states recording the highest crime rate and social problems.
"Security issues and crime have become the main topic of conversation among the local community and it is my priority to tackle the issue," he said at a media conference after taking over duty as the new Selangor Police Chief from the Selangor deputy police chief, DCP Datuk A.Thaiveegan at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK), here today.
Also present were Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and all district police chiefs in Selangor.
Mohd Shukri, 59, said he was no stranger to Selangor because he had previously served as the Head of the Selangor Special Branch as well as the District Police Chief for Sepang and Shah Alam.
Meanwhile, Thaiveegan, who will be going on transfer as Penang Deputy Police Chief, said that the heads of departments and the OCPDs in Selangor had helped him a lot in tackling crime during his four-year tenure in the Selangor IPK. – Bernama
