IS IT 'BARGAINABLE'? Tee Yong says won't stand if Soi Lek goes for presidency
The open feud between MCA's top leaders have caught a "victim” – Datuk Chua Tee Yong who said today he will not contest the party elections if his father decides to defend his presidency.
Tee Yong, the son of Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, said his decision was to avoid accusations of nepotism.
"This is to squash any rumours that the president will stand to ensure there is a place for me in the party," he told a press conference at the MCA headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Both Dr Chua and his deputy Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai have been snipping at each other for the past few days.
Liow had called Dr Chua a "dictator", "bully" and a "spin doctor" after the latter hit back at his number two for pressuring him to step down in three occasions. - September 9, 2013.
In an apparent swipe against Liow, Tee Yong said he was saddened that infighting was still ongoing in the party in an effort to clamour for higher posts.
“After the 13th general election, we are left with just seven MPs and 11 assemblymen. There is nothing really much to fight for,” he said.
He called for all parties to be matured, proposing that a close-door debate should be held between the presidential candidates for delegates to choose the best candidate rather than airing dirty linen in public.
Despite declaring he would not be contesting in the polls, Tee Yong assured that he would still contribute to the party.
