MCA slams 'DISCONTENT' monger Idris Jusoh for 'go overseas' comment

MCA slams 'DISCONTENT' monger Idris Jusoh for 'go overseas' comment
The remarks by Minister of Education II Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh that parents who were unhappy with the National Education Blueprint can send their children to study abroad does not only leave the problem unresolved, but creates discontent amongst the people as well.
As a Minister of Education in Malaysia, he has been appointed with the responsibility of implementing the works and policies of the Education Ministry. Thus he is obliged to explain the contents of the Blueprint to the people in order to appease their concerns. He should have been more receptive towards the public’s opinions on how to implement the Blueprint and to set its directives to achieve its ultimate goals.
Regretfully, Idris instead decided to make offensive statements and ignore the willingness of the people who want to participate in in policy-making. This will only cause the people to feel excluded from the government and the Education Ministry.

People today are more civic conscious and they attach great importance in making their opinions and positions heard. They have a strong desire to take part in the process of formulating national policies, and in this kind of situation Idris must strive to convince the public and to actively interact with them instead of asking them to leave if they are not happy.
The Blueprint has received over 55,000 comments from members of the public, including experts and non-governmental organisations. As such, before the Blueprint is formally implemented, the government should try to convince the people of its viability and practicality.
Therefore I strongly urge the government to communicate more with the people in order to explain its policies and to convey their well-intents to the people. This will help to alleviate their doubts and fears, as well as gain the support of the majority towards their policies.

MCA Youth Education Bureau Chairman
