New firm to man AES cameras

Acting Transport Minister gives the assurance that the take-over would be executed in a fair and transparent manner.
KUALA LUMPUR: Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras would soon be managed by a recently-formed government-owned company AES Solutions Sdn Bhd.
AES Solutions would take over the operation of the AES cameras from A.T.E.S and Beta Tegap Sdn Bhd with the Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein giving the assurance in a written reply to the oral questions from Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim that the process would be carried out in a fair and transparent manner.
An audit firm would be appointed to perform a due diligence to clear any outstanding issues on assets and liabilities of the companies.
The government would also engage the police to carry out enforcement and operation of the AES and from Sept 18, AES offenders would have to pay a minimum fine of RM150.
The police would apply “the more you delay, the more you pay” principle when dealing with non-settled AES fines, meaning that the amount would increase as the offenders delay in paying the fines.
Meanwhile, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) would manage matters related to Road Safety System (Kejara) and others that were related to the “demerit point” system.
Motorists who failed to pay the fine would be black-listed with repeat offenders having their driving licenses revoked.
