PBS said it was "critical to BN's future" that a review is made because complaints that the formula was not being practised according to its true meaning has long been heard.
KENINGAU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) deputy president Dr Maximus Ongkili called on Barisan Nasional (BN) Sabah to review the existing power sharing formula between its eight component parties and address the need to practice it in a more transparent and fair manner.
Ongkili, who is also Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, stressed that the need for such a move was important in order to enhance Sabahans’ support for the party.
“A review of the formula is critical for BN’s future as the political landscape has changed drastically and people have more choices,” he said.
The exercise would also ensure that all parties in the BN family had their interests taken care of and each component had a role to play in the political and decision making process, he said.
“Only then will they truly feel that they’re a part of the BN family.
“This will then attract more people to support BN’s struggle,” he said during the opening of the PBS Sook division annual general meeting here today.
Complaints that the formula was not being practised according to its true meaning have long been heard and therefore it was high time the review took place, he added.
Ongkili said the power sharing formula was formulated by a working group led by Sabah Speaker Salleh Tun Said Keruak. BN Sabah is comprised of Umno, PBS, United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut (Upko), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), MCA, MIC and Gerakan.
