After showdown, Khairul is Umno Youth deputy chief

Khairul Azwan Harun won the Umno Youth deputy chief’s post after re-elections were held in two divisions today, according to unofficial results.

Umno elections committee deputy chairman Tan Sri Azmi Khalid said Khairul got the votes of the Gelang Patah and Sabak Bernam divisions.

A re-election was also to be held in the Bachok division today but it was postponed to Friday.

"By winning in two of the three divisions ordered to hold re-elections, he can be deemed to be the winner of the post. However, this is an unofficial result. The official result will be announced by Umno headquarters," Azmi told Bernama.

In the Umno Youth election on October 12, frontrunners Khairul and Jamawi Jaafar ended up in a 73-73 tie for the post.

Umno's elections committee then ordered re-elections in the three divisions after considering all factors and getting the agreement of the duo that it was the best way to break the tie. – Bernama
